. about a day away from hitting the east coast. we keep talking boston and this could hit new york city. >> providence, hartford, boston up to new hampshire and maine. all of the big cities across the northeast under the gun here. if you are along i-95, it's going to be a line where north of you somewhere it's going to be 20 to 25 inches. south of you it will be two. that's a big range. they will sneak into part of the forecast and not get to the northern part. new york city right now, this computer we are talking about is 15.3 inches of snow. providence is 28.3. the mayor of boston, we showed the picture said please, everybody off the road by noon. city schools are closed. we don't want you stuck on the freeway in a blizzard. this is going happen. people are going to get out with three inches of snow on the ground. they think they will be okay, but they are not. they are going to get stuck in this. three inches now, but two hours later, the be inig inches and not going to be able to get out of the car. this happens all the time. get off the road and stay home. >> here's a heads up. i h

that freed that little boy. victor blackwell, live from midland city, alabama this morning. i know you're very excited to be sharing this information, victor. what do we know about the raid and why law enforcement actually decided to go in? >> good morning, zoraida. two reasons primarily. the first is because authorities say they observed jimmy lee dykes with a gun and the second reason is because in the day leading up to that raid, the communications with dykes had broken down. so they realized they could not wait any longer to go in and rescue ethan. ethan is safe. this is a photograph of the 5-year-old being taken into a hospital after nearly a week being held in an underground bunker in alabama. >> he's fine. he's laughing, playing, joking, eating, the things you would expect a normal 5-year-old or 6-year-old young man to do. he's very brave, he's very lucky. the success story is that he is out safe and doing great. >> reporter: the dramatic end came after officers saw 65-year-old jimmy lee dykes holding a weapon. they felt they could not hold off any longer. >> at this point, fbi

on the streets, you see cabs. not so much right now, huh? >> new york city, right? the city that never sleeps. this is a city that is in the middle of a deep slumber. when was the last time you saw the streets practically empty. look at the circle, columbus circle, practically empty. a couple cabs, maybe a snow plow if you're lucky, maybe a city bus. empty. it's like a white christmas today. isn't it? a winter wonderland. it is cold, i'll tell you that, but it's snowing and it's a quiet snow. not much wind going on. so really kind of a calm overhang on this evening in the middle of the night. the snow, though, is continuing to pile up. what i find interesting, though, is i really haven't seen many snow plows go by and the city has promised they were on patrol as of 7:00 tonight. perhaps they're in the boroughs in the neighborhoods making their way through. one interesting difference to this year, though, different from the blizzard that hit here in 2010, the city's kind of learned about it, learned from its mistakes, they have got kind of, brooke, a gps tracker of where the snow plows are. so

that include areas from around just north of new york city where winter storm advisories are now in effect for areas that already had been hit hard and pounded with the snow. of course, you get the freezing overnight. it could start out as some additional snowfall again and then this will change to rain and flooding is going to be a big problem here. this obviously though is just one of several stories. the immediate threat is the severe weather that we're finding and, of course, with the reports of damage. brianna, we're going to continue to monitor the situation, check in with the local folks that live down in the hattiesburg area. again, three photographs coming to us already. checking in with the national weather service, but our threat, again, continues for our sunday early evening. this will be extended and could include the metro atlanta area for the overnight period and that's the frightening part, it's the overnight hours when you can't see the funnels dropping down. >> that's right, tom. and we'll be keeping an eye obviously on this. and the other thing is i should say we're wait

are in constant communication with a man holding a 5-year-old in an underground bunker in midland city, alabama. george howell is there. police came out with new details what items the suspect jimmy lee dikes is giving the child. what are they? >> we just heard from the sheriff here, wally olson. he said a few interesting things. we learned that mr. dykes has electric heater and blankets. certainly it's cold in the bunker, about a constant 50 degrees in that bunker underground. they're still able to get the young boy medications he needs. he suffers from asperger's syndrome and dhd. also able to get him the crayons and coloring book. also toys. and there was another interesting thing that i noticed in this particular press conference. when the sheriff said that he wanted to thank mr. dykes, listen to this. >> he's told us that he has a lk heater and blankets inside that he's taking care of him. he's also allowed us to provide coloring books, medication, toys, and i want to thank him for taking care of our child. that's very important. >> reporter: again, he wanted to thank him for taking care o

strip in a city not easily shocked. it started at 4:30 a.m. someone in a black range rover with dealer plates fired into this maz rat tea killing the driving causing it to go out of control. it continued through an intersection and smashed into this car. hard to tell, but that is a taxi cab. it burst into flame. the driver and passenger trapped inside died. >> it's possible that the cab may have been running on propane. they are investigating the engineering and mechanicals of that vehicle. >> reporter: still on the loose, the black range rover with dealer plates. a common vehicle here. police warning that the occupants are armed and dangerous. >> very dark, tinted windows and occupied multiple times by black males. >> reporter: now, we expect that las vegas police will be holding a press conference shortly, in about an hour, about 5:00 p.m. eastern time, wolf. we're going to try to bring that to you live. we hope to learn more details about how this thing played out. we do know that police have requested video from all of the major hotels on this part of the strip. so they are hoping

not take away from what has been a superb week for new orleans, the city that was mostly once under water, now hosting the biggest sporting event of the year, talked to a lot of fans last night after that delay and they said this does not affect how they feel about super bowl week, they had a great experience, and this was just an unfortunate incident. roger goodell saying this does not affect the nfl looking at having new orleans host another super bowl and i know the city is aiming towards 2018 to do that to coincide with the 300 year anniversary of the city. >> there is a whole other story line today percolating, joe carter, about how cbs dropped the ball according to this one. sports columnist on the new york daily news, we'll talk about that later in the hour with several voices we're bringing on whether or not they failed to report what was happening as they awaited on the sidelines. joe carter for me in new orleans. thank you. i want to play some sound. this is commissioner roger goodell. this is what he is saying here about this blackout. >> there is no indication at all that this

heating bills and sli shrinking paychecks. we have a reporter live at a gas station in new york city. what do the prices look like there? >> reporter: hi, john. yeah, gas prices are certainly skyrocketing. over here on 10th avenue, you'll see regular gas $4.15. i'm looking at the board now. premium is still $4.45. we're expected to see the numbers increase even further. let me shou the numbers. what it looks like in terms of the rest of the country. average price, $3.71. that's the average. but, you know, in some states, you know, it can get a lot higher than that. anyone in hawaii knows what i'm talking about. gas is $4.29 over there. the cheapest gas is in wyoming. $3.17 a gallon. this is really coming at a bad time for a lot of americans in this part of the country at least. people are spending more money on heating. they don't have the spare change to spare on gas prices getting higher. taxes also increasing for a lot of americans. at this particular gas station, i did speak to some taxi drivers who pulled in earlier this morning. i xad thasked them, what are yog to do? they told me th

to be a huge relief when they get here. the city of mobile is also going to have medical personnel here available for them to perform any sort of quick examinations to provide them with medical assistance if anybody needs that when they get off the ship. you can bet -- it's not much to look at here, this is a small little facility that was built to handle cruise ships to facilitate people getting off the ships on to buses, on to whatever destination they have. but you can bet when they get here, this is going to look like paradise to those 31 passengers and the crew can't be in good shape either. >> i can only imagine, david. you know, hot shower goes a long way. but i imagine they also too want more compensation. is carnival saying, look, they're going to give them any money, anything else for this horrific ordeal they've been going through for four days? >> reporter: well, first of all, they're not going to have to pay for this trip, wow, yeah. and then after that, carnival is saying that they will provide them with a credit for another cruise should they decide they want to try this

, kansas, not nashville, tennessee. in kansas city, they picked up 9.2 inches of snowfall. you can still see it for areas like nebraska, minnesota and into wisconsin. chicago, you've picked up about .81 inches of snowfall. that's welcomed but still not a lot. looking at a wintry mix from this last storm system, bringing some of that through to west virginia, ohio, and down through the south our other story is going to be flooding. we'll talk more about that flooding over the next couple of days. see these numbers up towards areas like in minnesota, three inches of snow. down toward regions like tennessee, even into georgia, we're going to see potentially three to six inches of rainfall. you see a line of storms moving through and this is going to continue to pile up. and this means worry going to be dealing with a flood threat over the next couple of days. there's also a chance for some winter weather to move through parts of the northeast. it looks like some new watches and advisories were just issued. it looks like in some locations we could pick up about six inches of snowfall. some l
